Universities of Nottingham & Aston

NRG Sense is a business partner in a research project based at the University of Nottingham and Aston University. The project is funded by the UK government’s Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), and investigating into the potential of Variable-Temperature Thermochemical Energy Storage System and Heat Networks (VTTESS-HNet) for Decarbonising the Buildings Sector.  There are two strands to the project: one is an engineering strand, enabling the system to operate continuously with variable waste heat and renewable energy sources rather than requiring storage or discharge of heat intermittently.  The other is a social sciences strand, which will consider social, political or environmental barriers to the uptake of the community-based VTTESS-heat networks, assessing their potential in the UK’s journey to zero carbon, and making proposals to address such barriers that exist.  The government’s press release announcing the funding can be found here.
